Hello! My name is Kendra Lucero. I have been a pianist for 13 years. However, my love of music didn't stop there -- I also play the guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and ukulele.
I started teaching piano when I was ten years old to a friend of mine. When I got a little older, I started teaching to those from a homeschool group I was a part of. And as my siblings grew up, I not only taught them piano, but also bluegrass instruments. They took a liking to playing bluegrass music more than piano, and my sisters and I have since formed a band, The Morning Star Sisters.
While my roots are in classical music, I also have had training in everything from jazz and pop to ragtime and traditional hymns. It is important to me to teach what my students want to learn. Whether they desire to someday play hymns on the piano at church or play bluegrass fiddle in a family band, it is my aim to specialize and shape the teaching to fit what their goals are.
My view on music is that it is a tool to use to glorify the Lord. I do believe that we can also use it for our own enjoyment and pleasure, as well as for the enjoyment and pleasure of others. Music is a wonderful way to express thoughts and feelings, as well as encouraging and spurring one another along to love and good works.
~Lessons and Cost~
I teach private music lessons from my home to kids ages 6 and up. These lessons will consist of hands on skills as well as music theory. These lessons are also tailored to you and your child's goals in learning (for example, if your child wants to learn to play at church, or if your child wants to play with others in a band). Lessons are once a week for 30 minutes. Lessons are $80 per month for one child, or $60 per month for each child if you have more than one taking lessons.
For those that are younger, or may have more fun with a group lesson, these may also be offered based on the number of people interested. These lessons will teach beginning music concepts, such as rhythm, notes and note names, and pitch, as well as introduce them to the many instruments out there. These group classes will last one hour once a week, and will be $50 per month per child.
